Betty Frances Riggin

Betty Frances Riggin was born June 1, 1924, in Van Nuys, California and graduated from high school there. She married Harlan Riggin in 1942. Harlan was a district sales manager for MoorMan’s Feeds. Betty was a homemaker whose life revolved around their children. She read them books, visited their classrooms, attended their performances, sewed their clothes, including wedding dress, curled her daughters’ hair until they left for college, made four versions of potato salad for finicky eaters, milked cows, raised a big garden and canned fruits and vegetables. She was always looking for ways to give her children more educational and cultural opportunities even while she deprived herself of many necessities. In later years she and Harlan had several enjoyable trips to Florida, the Bahamas, New England, Hawaii, Montana and Branson. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, sister, grandson, and three daughters, Martha, Carol and Laura. She is survived by her daughter, Rita Swan and her husband, Douglas of Omaha, Nebraska; son, Steven Riggin of St. Louis, Missouri; son, Ralph Riggin and his wife, Alice of Corona, California; son, Earl Riggin and his wife, Mary of Pittsburg, Kansas; by fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 21, 2012, at the Brenner Mortuary. A private family graveside will be held later. The family suggests memorials be given to the SEK Humane Society. These may be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th Street, Pittsburg, KS, 66762. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
